Ser is for permanent or essential characteristics — who you are, what something is, where you're from.Estar is for temporary states, locations, and conditions — how you feel, where you are right now.
When to Use SER
Remember: DOCTOR
Ella es alta.
She is tall.
Soy profesor.
I am a teacher.
El hielo es frío.

Location requires ESTAR, not SER

Professions use SER, not ESTAR
